Membership is for the calendar year. New membership applications received October to December also cover the following year.
GIFT AID
If you are a UK taxpayer you can boost your donation at no extra cost to yourself by gift aiding your subscription. The Society can claim Gift Aid from HMRC from the tax you pay for the current tax year (currently 25 pence for each £1 donated). This is entirely optional. For Family Memberships gift aid applies only to the principal member, and not the additional member. If you wish to do so, please read carefully the statement below and select from the dropdown list.

I would like to Gift Aid my subscription and any future donations. I am a UK taxpayer and understand that if I pay less Income Tax and/or Capital Gains Tax in the current tax year than the amount of Gift Aid claimed on all my donations it is my responsibility to pay any difference if requested by HMRC.

I will notify Highland Geological Society if I want to cancel this declaration, or I change my name or home address or I no longer pay sufficient tax on my income and/or capital gains tax.

Library access
The HGS library collection is managed by Inverness Public Library and is available for public reference. Only HGS members with a current, signed HGS library card can borrow books. If you would like an HGS library card, please tick the box.

Anyone requesting a library card will be sent a further declaration for completion.
Note 1: Applications dated October onwards will also cover membership for the following calendar year.

Membership covers the calendar year, and renewals become payable from 01 January yearly. A renewal reminder will be sent in early January 2026.

For those with standing orders, please cancel the old order. New standing orders should be dated on or after 01 January yearly using the new bank details:

To maintain continuous membership, renewal fees should be paid on or after 01 January yearly. If payment is not received by 31 March, membership will automatically cease.

Note 2. Family membership covers two named individuals (16 years or older) at one address, whose names will be added to the HGS Register of Members and who will have a right to vote. Additional family members are also welcome to participate in HGS events if accompanied by their parent/ guardian but are not classed as full members. Correspondence will be through the main member email only.
